📘 “So … that” y “such … that”

Estructuras para expresar causa + resultado.

1️⃣ So... that

so + adjective + that + result

Oraciones con consecuencia

  • ✔ The movie was so boring that I fell asleep.
  • ✔ Her voice is so beautiful that it gives me goosebumps.
  • ✔ I was so tired that I fell asleep.

👉 Primero intensidad, luego consecuencia.

2️⃣ Con adverbios

so + adverb + that + result

  • ✔ He drove so fast that the police stopped him.
  • ✔ She explained the lesson so clearly that everyone understood.
  • ✔ The child behaved so badly that his parents had to leave the restaurant.

3️⃣ Con sustantivos

Aquí cambia la estructura: Para expresar causa y consecuencia con sustantivos, necesitas usar los adjetivos "much" (incontable) o "many" (contable) antes del sustantivo.

TipoEstructuraEjemplo
Incontableso much + noun + thatI had so much pain that I couldn’t speak.
Contableso many + noun + thatI made so many mistakes that I learned fast.

1️⃣ Such... that

La Estructura Fundamental: El Sustantivo es la Clave

La regla de oro que debes grabar en tu mente es: "Such" SIEMPRE va seguido de un sustantivo (o un adjetivo + sustantivo).

Si no hay un sustantivo después del adjetivo, NO puedes usar "such". Tienes que usar "so".

  • Such + (adjetivo) + sustantivo + that
  • So + adjetivo + that

2️⃣ Con Sustantivo Contable Singular

Aquí es obligatorio usar el artículo indefinido "a" o "an" justo después de "such".

such + a/an + (adjetivo) + sustantivo contable singular + that + resultado

  • ✔ It was such a difficult moment that I almost quit.
  • ✔ He is such an intelligent person that he solves everything quickly.
  • ✔ She told us such a funny story that we couldn't stop laughing.

3️⃣ Con Sustantivos Incontables

Con los incontables, NO se usa "a" o "an". El adjetivo (si lo hay) va directamente después de "such".

such + (adjetivo) + sustantivo incontable + that + resultado

  • ✔ She has such great talent that everyone notices.
  • ✔ It was such terrible weather that we stayed home all day.
  • ✔ He gave me such valuable advice that it changed my perspective.

4️⃣ Con Sustantivos en Plural

Al igual que con los incontables, con plurales no se usa "a" o "an". Simplemente va el adjetivo seguido del sustantivo en plural.

such + (adjetivo) + sustantivo plural + that + resultado

  • ✔ They faced such hard times that they grew stronger.
  • ✔ They are such kind people that everyone wants to be their friend.
  • ✔ I've had such busy days that I haven't had time to call you.
